Overall: 4 stars
For my first post on this brand new blog, I wanted to start with a very powerful film I saw recently. Overall, The East is an excellent film. The characters are complex, the story is fascinating and important. The acting is phenomenal. The viewer is left amazed and in a cloud of deep thoughts.
Bechdel: The East passed the Bechdel test completely. There were multiple female characters, all with names. They talked about food, the environment, trust. Conversations certainly surpassed the realm of, “women are only concerned with men.”
Treatment of female characters: Besides passing the Bechdel test, the women in The East were multi-dimensional and seen as actual human beings instead of just bodies. The East is truly a powerhouse film in all aspects.
